HOLY BLOSSOM TEMPLE RENEWAL - PHASE I

Client: Holy Blossom Temple
Size: 36,400 sq.ft
Budget: $16.2 Million
Location: Toronto, Ontario

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Founded in 1856 with only 17 members, Holy Blossom Temple is recognized as Toronto’s first synagogue. In fact, the Ontario Heritage Foundation lists Holy Blossom as the first Jewish congregation in Canada west of the Ontario/Quebec boundary. Built at its current location at 1950 Bathurst Street in 1938, this impressive structure is well-known throughout the construction industry for its ingenious and pioneering use of cast-in-place concrete.

The first phase of Holy Blossom Temple’s renewal project commenced in the spring of 2016 will not only serve to bring new vitality to this historic place of worship but will also foster a strong foundation for the temple’s generational legacy among its more than 6,500 current members. The first phase of the renewal project includes construction of a stunning three-storey, glass-covered atrium, which will provide a welcoming meeting and event space for the congregation. A spacious new family chapel, library, administrative offices, youth lounge, and café, are among the other elements of the project for this remarkable property.
